MelloKurz
Intended to emulate real instruments, the Mellotron became a unique instrument in its own right. Its awesome, surreal sound was the hallmark of the recordings of bands like Aerosmith, the Beatles, Elton John, Genesis, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, the Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream, and many others. There is simply no replacing the Mellotron's special sound.

MelloKurz is a dedicated collection of classic Mellotron sounds. It is a full CD ROM, with over 540 megabytes of material, a product of our long-term collaboration with coproducers Klaus Hofmann-Hook and Eckert Kraft at Masterbits. The samples are 16 bit, 44.1 kHz, fully keymapped and programmed. In addition to true-to-life renderings, each sound set includes programs that showcase our special brand of VAST programming.

Our new KDFX version of MelloKurz gives you a variety of studios and studio combinations, with over 40 programs per voicing. In addition to presets, our programs give you real-time control of effects parameters, so that you can adjust the sound to suit your personal preferences and playback environment.

Our MelloKurz sample library features unlooped samples in order to provide the most realistic possible rendering of the original source material. It includes 16 bit, 44.1 kHz samples of authentic Mellotron sounds in these categories:

  • Choirs: Classic male and female voices, octave and augmented choirs.

  • Strings: Solo violins, solo cellos, combinations, and string sections. The instruments are featured in varied playing styles.

  • Brass: Trombone, trumpet, and sax. Also included are combinations of these instruments and larger brass sections.

  • Winds: Clarinets and flutes.

  • Organ: Hammond organ and percussive organ with Leslie.
